Seahawks Nearing Deal With Bucs Safety Howell

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may be on the verge of losing yet another player to the Seattle Seahawks.
Seattle, which recently signed free agent wide receiver Joe Jurevicius and free agent nose tackle Chartric Darby, is believed to be closing in on an agreement with free agent safety John Howell. The four- year veteran played in all 16 games in 2004, starting six, and could sign with the Seahawks as early as this week.
The Bucs are believed to have interest in re-signing Howell, but salary cap issues may prevent the two sides from reaching an agreement.
BUC PLAYER ARRESTED: Bucs offensive tackle Matt Martin was arrested early Sunday morning in Tampa on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing or opposing an officer without violence, police records show.
Martin, 25, was arrested at 2:20 a.m. Sunday by Tampa police and was released at 8:35 a.m. after posting a $500 bond.
The Bucs signed Martin last month to a one-year deal with a base salary of $305,000. Before signing with Tampa Bay, the undrafted free agent out of Kansas State spent three seasons with the Tennessee Titans. In three years with the Titans, he played in just one game. He spent last season rehabilitating a shoulder injury that required surgery.
